The forest of the Sky Mountains was bitterly dark. Moreover, the trees were too dense for horses to pass through. Less than half an hour after entering the forest, Sheyden thought something was wrong.
‘No, Kassel must have made a mistake. No matter how short the shortcut is, it’s meaningless if horses can’t even run on the path.’
The other Wolves knew this too, but they hesitated to voice it out loud.
Sheyden had been uneasy ever since the Queen ordered them to leave White Gate and depart for Carnelock.
‘Oh right. Your wound hasn’t healed yet. Then you should step aside. Would it be better if Alex led? How about Franz? I hear he’s been gaining the trust of his comrades lately? Or maybe Billy? He was a swordsmanship instructor in the Excelon Knights, so he might have more leadership ability than our guys.’
‘No, that’s not what I meant… I’m talking about the issue of the Wolf Knights leaving White Gate, Your Majesty.’
‘If Rock falls, White Gate is meaningless. Go, Sheyden. That’s all I have to say.’
Sanadiel’s face showed a sense of gravity as she said those words. Though smiling, it felt like she was putting her life on the line.
Like a captain of knights on the front lines.
“The Captain is acting strange.”
Sildire cautiously spoke up. She was the most honest. The important thing wasn’t that the path was strange, that it was scary entering the Sky Mountains for the first time, or that this couldn’t possibly be a shortcut.
Kassel was acting strange.
Hearing those words, it really was true. Sildire muttered, unable to even speak a word to Kassel whom she had been so eager to meet.
“It doesn’t seem like Kassel.”
Vunataidol, who had inadvertently come to the very front out of fear of falling behind, quickly chimed in.
“Right? It must be a ghost imitating him.”
“Stop it.”
Sildire angrily whispered.
The path grew treacherous, the trees multiplied, and the horses couldn’t even walk, let alone run. Billy and Franz’s voices could be heard from behind.
“It’s getting denser. If we go any further, it’ll be hard to get back out.”
“It feels just like an enemy luring us into a trap.”
Unable to hold back any longer, Sheyden approached Kassel.
“Kassel, we should turn back while we still can…”
At that moment, Kassel drew his sacred sword. The sword emitted an intense light from the moment it was unsheathed.
Sheyden’s eyes widened in surprise. The other Wolves were also startled. Even the horses, excited by the sudden light, reared up or stepped backwards. The knights struggled to calm their mounts.
Without looking back, Kassel silently urged on the nameless beast he was riding. The light from the sacred sword did not spread in all directions, but extended far ahead in the direction they were moving. Once again at a loss for words, Sheyden could only follow behind Kassel. Everyone squinted their eyes as they followed the light.
“The, the trees… are bending.”
Malra’s small voice could be heard from behind. Her dark face looked pale.
Suvel’s muttering voice echoed as if in a cave.
“Are we all dreaming together?”
Even the fearless Eryl spoke in a frightened voice.
“The trees in the Sky Mountains shouldn’t normally grow like this…”
The trees that had been blocking the knights’ path were now bending their trunks sideways. The ground also shifted slightly to the sides, creating a wide open path. There was nothing obstructing their forward progress. It was a tunnel through the forest, made of trees.
Their breathing quickened. Except for the few right next to them, the faces of their friends were barely visible. The trees behind where the knights had passed straightened back up. And as if refusing to allow passage ever again, they intertwined to block the path. Meanwhile, the trees blocking their way ahead seemed to writhe as if alive, retreating to make way for Kassel.
“She-Sheyden. I’m scared.”
Sildire said in a trembling voice. But Sheyden couldn’t comfort her. He was just as frightened. Even Franz, who cared for Sildire so much, kept his mouth tightly shut and couldn’t offer any words of reassurance. Vunataidol was on the verge of fainting.
“Don’t be afraid, everyone.”
Kassel said in a calm voice.
“This is not some strange magic. It’s a gift given to us by the master of Aranthia who existed separately from Queen Sanadiel. The ‘White Wolf’ is guiding the ‘wolves’.”
Kassel looked back. And he smiled faintly. In one way it seemed like the smile of someone who had resigned themselves to everything, and in another way it resembled Queen Sanadiel’s benevolent smile.
“Let’s go, friends!”
With those final words, Kassel kicked Venon’s sides.
Venon began to run. Sheyden also urged his horse on strongly. At the same time, all the Wolves competitively began to gallop their horses. Venon’s pace was clearly an incredible speed that no land animal could match. However, within the space of light that Kassel was carving out, the Wolves’ horses were able to keep pace with Venon’s speed. The trees and rocks that had made way for the Wolf Knights passed by in a gray blur.
The sound of hoofbeats was barely audible, as if they weren’t even touching the ground as they ran. They galloped mindlessly, as if entranced by something. They passed through multiple mountains and penetrated through endless stretches of trees. The enormously wide valleys they encountered in between were crossed in a single leap, as if flying through the air.
They had no idea how long they had been running. They didn’t know which direction they were going, or how far they had come. In fact, all the Wolves were so intoxicated by the act of running itself that they had forgotten why they were following Kassel in the first place.
Finally, Kassel made a sharp turn. It was the first time he had changed direction after running for hours. No, they didn’t know if they had been running for a day. Maybe two days, maybe a month. Sheyden felt he could believe it if someone told him they had just been running for a year.
The forest disappeared. They were suddenly running on flat ground. But they still couldn’t get their bearings. Because Kassel’s sacred sword continued to emit light, they couldn’t tell if it was night or day.
Sheyden looked up at the sky. He couldn’t see any stars, moon, or sun. Dark clouds quickly receded in the sky that seemed close enough to touch.
Sheyden shouted to Franz beside him.
“Is it morning now, or night?”
Franz shook his head.
“I don’t know either. How much time has passed? Are we late? Did we arrive on time?”
Sheyden looked down at his horse, which was running on its own without any guidance.
“The horses aren’t tired at all.”
“We’re not tired either.”
Even Vunataidol, who had been terrified at first, now had a relaxed expression.
“I don’t think I’ve ever felt this good before.”
Sheyden said with a smile.
“Go give the Wolf Knights’ flag to Kassel. It seems we’ve arrived.”
Kassel began to slow Venon’s pace, and only at the very end did he sheathe his sacred sword. Only after the light completely disappeared did they realize where they had come to.
It was in front of the Tower of Blessing, north of Rock.
☆ ☆ ☆
“What an absurd thing has happened. Powell, go teach those travelers who came a long way how much they struggled in vain to get here.”
Victor was the most surprised by the appearance of the Wolf Knights, but he was also the first to mock the magical light of the sacred sword.
Powell did not linger on his unfinished duel with Azwin, and left that place to ride towards where the Mozes were.
Lofin also said to Azwin:
“You go too, Azwin. This is not where you should be, but over there.”
“But Lofin.”
“Go now!”
Azwin looked back and forth between Victor and Lofin, but eventually ran in the same direction as Powell. However, she fell far behind Powell who was riding on horseback. Lofin waved his sword at Azwin, who looked back as if saying farewell.
“You acted too recklessly trying to look cool, when it would have taken joining forces with that child to barely face me.”
Victor said.
Lofin spoke to Jay who remained:
“Jaymer. Take a good look at your injured arm, you won’t be able to move it forward. Let me teach you a bit in place of Irine. How to fight with one arm.”
Jay nodded his head with a slightly dazed expression.
Lofin continued, looking at Victor:
“Now that my juniors have arrived, shall we have a real go at it?”
“Was that not your best effort until now?”
“It was. But now I don’t need to worry about what’s behind me.”
“Fool. The arrival of mere fifty knights won’t affect the battle.”
“You’re right. It will only change the flow a little.”
Lofin smiled faintly.
“And watch how my trump card turns that flow upside down.”
☆ ☆ ☆
Kassel, who was looking down at the Mozes covering the plains from atop the hill, said to Sheyden:
“This is all I can do. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Sheyden nodded slightly in response. Vunataidol approached beside him and handed the wolf flag to Kassel.
“Hold it, Captain.”
Kassel took the wolf flag.
Sheyden spoke to everyone:
“Let’s go.”
Putier, the chess-loving knight, was the first to shout:
“For Her Majesty the Queen.”
Everyone repeated those words.
“For Her Majesty the Queen.”
Soon, fifty-five Wolves, one Excelon knight, and one failed Wolf candidate rode their horses down the hill.
From a distance, that advance looked utterly pathetic. Powell, who had ridden down to the base of the hill, led the Moz archer unit and waited. Three hundred Mozes all nocked their bows at once, while another three hundred prepared backup behind them.
Powell gave orders to the Mozes in Lemif language:
“First line, prepare to fire.”
☆ ☆ ☆
Knadil, who was tightly gripping the Tower of Wrath while watching the Wolf Knights’ advance, was startled by a sudden scream from behind and turned around.
Latilda, who had been in the tower, was collapsed on the ground clutching her stomach. Black smoke enveloped her body, and a claw-like magical force was piercing through her abdomen.
“What have you done, Latilda?”
Knadil realized in that moment that Latilda had stabbed herself with her own hands.
But that wasn’t the end of it. The dark power was still surrounding Latilda’s body, trying to dominate her. Even in her stabbed state, she was struggling to resist the dark force.
“No.”
Knadil cried out, reaching his hand towards the tower.
At that moment, the black energy overflowing from Latilda’s body pushed Knadil backwards. Knadil’s huge body was lifted entirely and thrown back.
The dark magic flowing from Latilda’s body enveloped the Tower of Wrath. In an instant, cracks began to form all over the tower.
“This life was given by my father. I won’t let you do as you please with it!”
Latilda screamed as she dropped her face to the ground.
‘Help me, Father.’
The pain of her pierced abdomen was nothing. Latilda held onto her consciousness as if clinging to a single thread while falling off a cliff. She could hear the sound of torn flesh and blood dripping from below her stomach.
‘Loyal.’
Latilda tightly closed her eyes while gripping her stomach.
At that moment, she saw the Wolf Knights charging towards the Tower of Blessing.
The Mozes were shooting arrows at them.
A storm of arrows filling the sky fell towards the Wolf Knights.
With her fading consciousness, Latilda sang. It was a song of Aranthia she had heard somewhere before. However, her barely audible small voice was drowned out by the sound of the tower cracking and collapsing.
The sky sings and the earth prays
For the knights whose names will be told in legend
In the bright forest, in the shadowless sea
They fight and protect, driving out the darkness
Knights whose names will become legend
Knights who will guard the darkness…
Latilda could no longer continue singing. In her fading consciousness, she quietly murmured:
“Queen, protect your children.”
☆ ☆ ☆
Guanil burst into laughter. It sounded like the cheers of a frivolous gambler scooping up his winnings.
“How foolish! How foolish you are, Sanadiel. What power did you think knights who have left Aranthia’s blessing would have in another country that you sent them here? You made a mistake, Sanadiel. Your hastiness has led humanity to destruction.”
Guanil shouted at the Wolf Knights charging towards the Moz archer unit:
“Behold. This will be the end of the wolf pups who have left Aranthia.”
The arrows that soared into the sky crossed the dark sky and plunged vertically towards the Wolf Knights.
Kassel closed his eyes tightly and held high the flag that Vunataidol had handed him. Aranthia’s symbol with the wolf image fluttered strongly in the wind.
“Behold,”
Kassel said.
“This will be the first victory of the Wolf Knights who have left Aranthia.”
In the storm of incoming arrows, the Wolves’ swords, spears, and shields swirled.
Nine arrows flying overhead deflected off Sheyden’s spear and fell to the ground. Eryl, riding on horseback, saw and dodged all the visible arrows, while Barol blocked all the arrows with the large tower shield on his back, protecting even his horse. Sildire lay flat on her horse, letting all the arrows pass over her, only knocking away two arrows flying towards the horse’s head with her sword. Someone simply tilted their head slightly to avoid an arrow and deflected weakly flying ones with the thick part of their helmet.
In an instant, the shower of arrows all either broke or deflected off the weapons swung by the Wolves. None of the Wolf Knights fell from their horses.
Seeing no one get wet in the downpour, Powell was a bit dazed. Belatedly coming to his senses, he hurriedly ordered:
“Second line, load! Second line!”
However, the Wolf Knights charging at a terrifying speed were faster than the Mozes who weren’t prepared for a second volley. The Wolves’ attack began as Zainon picked up a throwing spear and hurled it. The spear flew in a straight line, piercing through three Mozes. Following that, the arrows Eryl shot flew in an arc, each hitting one Moz.
In the chaotic situation of the second line and first line switching, with the sudden attack added, the Moz archer unit fell into great confusion. The spear-wielding Mozes holding the rear couldn’t even move forward. No matter how much they had been trained, they couldn’t be prepared to deal with such an urgent situation.
Powell gave up and picked up a spear to at least save his own life.
The Wolf Knights charging down the hill swept through the bow-wielding Mozes like a flood overflowing a dam. Even the Mozes who hastily raised their spears were swept away and knocked down by that flood.
Powell swung his spear strongly towards the Wolf leading at the very front.
Sheyden swung his spear towards the black knight blocking his path. The spears of the two knights flew aiming for each other’s necks. However, Powell’s spear only pierced the air while Sheyden’s spear pierced Powell’s face. Powell’s body, falling from his horse, was sucked into the midst of the following Wolf Knights.
The last commander of the Mozes had disappeared.
The Mozes were familiar with cavalry attacks. They had faced Dragon Knights and fought the same way with Rock’s cavalry. However, against the Wolf’s charge coming in a triangular formation, the Mozes could barely offer any resistance. The Wolves brushed off the Mozes’ resistance as if ignoring it, not slowing their running speed.
Zainon discarded the spear that had three Mozes skewered on it simultaneously and picked up another spear with both hands to throw. Two Mozes trying to throw pitchforks at the Wolves fell simultaneously, skewered by his spear. Zainon then swung the iron spear Lergo had made for him left and right, striking down nearby Mozes one after another as he ran.
Vunataidol, who feared nothing except ghosts, beheaded several Mozes at once with his large sword as he passed. Even Mozes pouncing from above, prepared to be skewered by spears, couldn’t break through the boundary of Vunataidol’s swinging sword.
Where Sheyden’s spear and Barol’s sword swept simultaneously, only the corpses of Mozes remained. The elite Mozes, having lost their commander, were in disarray, disrupting their formation.
A Moz caught by the neck in the iron chain Coen threw was lifted into the air before crashing to the ground.
Malra punched down a Moz trying to climb up behind her horse, knocking it off.
“Where do you think you’re going, you bastard!”
Only Eryl, who was even more agile than Dunmel, rolled off as his horse lost balance and fell. But he didn’t slow down as he hit the ground, continuing to roll while drawing two daggers. And in that state, he cut through the ankles of the Mozes with a series of quick strikes. Dozens of Mozes fell, clutching their ankles, along the path he had rolled.
Hundreds of Mozes were swept away in an instant by the Wolf Knights’ charge.
☆ ☆ ☆
Right after Knadil was pushed away from the Tower of Wrath by Latilda, a dark energy enveloped the tower. Latilda was motionless, clutching her bleeding stomach. Knadil spoke as he walked towards the Tower of Wrath with heavy steps.
“Hold on. We can’t let it be taken.”
Knadil grabbed the tower with his hand.
“We still need this tower.”
If Latilda was taken by the enemy here, everything they had endured so far would be for nothing. Even the Wolf Knights’ miraculous arrival changing the flow of battle would become meaningless.
Knadil turned his gaze while holding onto the tower. And he shouted to his brother lying far away.
“Get up, Ganel! It’s not time to fall yet. Get up and again…”
At that moment, a huge hand grasped Knadil’s hand. Unable to let go of the tower, he couldn’t retreat even as he clearly saw black nails piercing his neck.
Latilda was rising from her place. Her slender arm wasn’t even as thick as one of Knadil’s fingers, but the black smoke extending from her hand had formed a giant’s arm and was gripping the dragon’s neck.
“Everything shall be as I will it!”
Latilda said.
Red light poured from her eyes. The power of darkness enveloped Knadil’s body and soon wrapped around the entire Tower of Wrath.
“Latilda, you must not lose your mind!”
Knadil shouted. But she didn’t listen and raised her hand. Knadil’s body was lifted up, caught by the black hand.
‘I must kill her now…’
Knadil reached out his hand towards Latilda.
‘There’s no other time. If I don’t kill Latilda now, I’ll die.’
Knowing this, Knadil still couldn’t do it. It had been a gamble from the start. If the Tower of Blessing fell, or Tanya lost her power, or Latilda in the Tower of Wrath fell into enemy hands, any one of these three would lose the battle. And now all three were happening as if it were a predetermined sequence.
‘If I kill Latilda here, it will be just as the enemy wants.’
Knadil said:
“Latilda, you must wake up.”
Latilda only glared at Knadil with her burning red eyes, not putting him down. Rather, she raised her other hand to create another black hand. And she said:
“Let everything be as I will it!”
The Tower of Wrath finally could not withstand Latilda’s power and collapsed.
☆ ☆ ☆
“To think I didn’t know that even though I was one of the Wolves…”
Lofin muttered to himself as he watched his juniors’ charge.
“It’s not that the Wolf Knights are protected by Aranthia’s blessing, but that the Wolf Knights themselves are Aranthia’s blessing.”
Victor, watching that scene, also said:
“It seems I’ll have to command the Mozes directly.”
“Where do you think you’re going? You have to finish things with me.”
“I’ll kill you and go, of course.”
Victor gripped his sword with both hands, including his newly grown hand.
“You can’t go, Victor.”
Unlike before, Lofin attacked first this time. Victor flinched and stepped back. But Lofin kept pressing, not giving him a chance to rest.
“Then and now, you were always stronger than me. Yes, stronger than the White Wolf designated as the next Queen’s Guardian Knight. But do you know why you always lose? I never showed my last technique.”
When the two first fought, Lofin had cut off his arm with a technique mimicking Grandol. And now Lofin used a technique he had practiced alone for 10 years. It was a technique he had never shown anyone. However, Victor didn’t stand idle either. He stabbed Lofin in the stomach as Lofin leapt into his arms.
Lofin didn’t mind. It was a technique premised on being stabbed by the opponent from the start. That’s why he couldn’t use it until now. Even in Tachisel, that was why he had passed the sword to Azwin.
Lofin’s sword thrust upwards, piercing Victor’s chin, shattering his skull, and emerging from the back of his head. Victor’s eyes widened. The attack coming up from below wasn’t even visible to Victor’s eyes.
“It’s a technique worth hiding, you bastard.”
Victor collapsed to the side without being able to say anything. Lofin staggered but stood up straight. And he said to Jaymer, who was watching with surprised eyes:
“Don’t just stand there, come help me.”
Jay hurriedly ran over to support him. But Lofin refused his help and grabbed the sword stuck in his stomach, saying:
“Pull it out.”
“I can’t. The bleeding will be too severe.”
“Pull it out when I tell you to. And pull out the one stuck in Victor’s chin too.”
Jay couldn’t bring himself to pull out the sword stuck in Lofin’s stomach, so he first pulled out the sword stuck in Victor and placed it in Lofin’s hand.
Lofin grabbed Jay’s hand and brought it to his stomach. The bleeding wasn’t severe yet.
“Pull it out.”
Jay could no longer refuse. Knowing it would be more painful if pulled out slowly, he cleanly pulled it out in one go. Blood gushed out. Lofin trembled slightly and leaned on Jay’s arm.
“Jaymer… where is… Guanil?”
He asked, looking in the wrong direction.
“North, that way.”
Only after Jay took Lofin’s hand and pointed in the direction did he see Guanil.
“What is he doing?”
“He’s spreading his wings and flying towards the Mozes’ camp. He’s gone east now. He’s landed there and is waiting for the Wolf Knights.”
Guanil’s roar could be heard.
“And the Wolves?”
“They’re coming this way. It looks like they’ll pass by us and head towards Guanil.”
“Azwin? Can you see her?”
Jay squinted his eyes and looked at the Wolf Knights rushing in from the west. Azwin was waving the Dragon Knights’ flag. The Irophis Knights, seeing her signal, charged towards Azwin as if they had been waiting.
Azwin threw down the flag and ran towards the charging Wolf Knights.
Dozens of Mozes, distracted by the Wolf Knights’ attack, were cut down by her sword as they failed to notice Azwin approaching from behind. She initially ran with a low posture, then straightened up and ran back in the direction she had come from.
Sheyden was riding the first horse that came running. He spotted Azwin and tried to slow down. But Azwin shouted:
“Don’t stop. Keep running! I’ll follow!”
Sheyden nodded and increased his horse’s speed again. Without slowing her running speed, Azwin shouted to Sildire who was running behind:
“Sildire, I’m riding with you! Move back!”
Sildire immediately let go of the reins and pushed her body towards the back of the saddle. Then Azwin grabbed the neck of the approaching horse, spun in the air, and mounted the saddle. As soon as she grabbed the reins, she looked back at the Wolves following.
Sildire held Azwin’s waist with one hand and held her sword with the other.
“What happened to your cheek?”
Azwin asked as she checked Sildire’s face, about to greet her.
“I got hurt.”
“Who did it?”
“Franz.”
Azwin smiled faintly and said:
“Did he say he’d take responsibility?”
“He said he would. But he didn’t say how he’d pay for it.”
“Let’s talk about it over drinks later.”
“Drinks?”
Sildire wondered what Azwin was talking about at a time like this.
Azwin raised her sword high and shouted:
“I’m taking command. Cavalry Formation 3!”
The Wolves lined up and followed behind her. As they broke through the Moz units, the Wolves’ swords and spears struck like another storm.
Azwin shouted without even having time to wipe the blood splattered on her face:
“Alex, Ongor, Malra, Coldy. Formation 7. Enter from the left and attack the Mozes. Alex is in command.”
As soon as Azwin finished speaking, four knights broke off to the left.
“Sheyden, Nilte, Farel. Formation 7 on the right. Sheyden is in command. Snadas, Barol. Move to the rear and protect Sheyden’s group.”
As the knights who heard her orders broke off, other knights immediately came running, and they too left the long column after hearing Azwin’s orders. About two hundred knights from the Irophis Order filled in the gaps. Captain Greenlich could be seen at the front.
“We were about to get tired of waiting!”
Greenlich shouted.
“Then you must have built up some strength. From now on, you’re the main players. Break through the Mozes in the circular formation I mentioned earlier.”
“Understood.”
Just as Greenlich was about to move to the side, Azwin realized someone who should be there was missing.
“Greenlich! Where’s Lucius?”
“He fell from his horse!”
It seemed Lucius had been taken down along with a few of the Irophis knights while breaking through the Mozes. Come to think of it, Brander also hadn’t been seen since being caught up in the battle between dragons.
Azwin was momentarily flustered.
‘There’s no one to lead the Dragon Knights!’
Here’s the translation of the Korean text you provided:
It was a concern from the strategy meeting. But there had been no time to worry about backup, so it was abandoned. Of course, there were many excellent knights on both sides and people capable of taking command remained, but no one was left who understood the Wolf Knights’ operation signals.
It was something they hoped wouldn’t happen, but it really did occur.
‘Anyone at all…’
Azwin quickly looked over a few Wolf Knights. Sildire, Putier, Coen, Zainon. And there were two unknown knights. One of those two approached Azwin’s horse.
“Any command positions open?”
“Who are you?”
Azwin asked briefly due to lack of time, and the man responded just as briefly, understanding the situation.
“Billy, a knight of Excelon. I’ve memorized all the Wolf Knights’ battle formations.”
‘A knight of Excelon?’
It was too unexpected for Azwin, but it didn’t matter. There was no reason not to use someone who appeared at the right moment.
“Command the Dragon Knights. Don’t miss the signals I give.”
“Understood. Suvel, follow me.”
Billy turned his horse around, and another knight followed. Azwin signaled with her fingers, and Billy immediately led the Dragon Knights, who were running in this direction, in the opposite direction.
Greenlich also shouted to the following knights and rode at full speed.
“Irophis!”
A trumpet sounded long, and the knights charged towards the Mozes even faster than the Wolf Knights, as if in competition.
Thus, four Wolves remained at Azwin’s side. Sildire shouted, trying to overcome the noisy hoof beats.
“What do we do?”
Azwin shouted at the top of her lungs.
“Dragon hunting!”
Not far ahead, Lofin was visible. He was standing proudly without any injuries, holding his sword, Vena Esarck. Behind him was Jaymer, and the fallen Victor.
‘I knew you’d win.’
Azwin smiled faintly and threw her sword vertically. Lofin, who had been waiting, also threw Vena vertically. The two swords crossed in mid-air, with Vena Esarck landing in Azwin’s hand, and Azwin’s sword in Lofin’s hand.
As soon as the Wolf Knights passed, Lofin collapsed on the spot. Jay sat down with him and covered his wound with his hands.
“Good heavens, did you pull out the sword just so Azwin wouldn’t see?”
“I didn’t want to stop the running child. And anyway, I…”
Lofin stopped without finishing his sentence. Then, caressing Azwin’s sword as if it were his disciple’s hand, he said:
“Jaymer, keep describing the battle scene. I can’t see well now.”
“De-describe?”
Jay had never hated his lack of eloquence more than at this moment. He described to the best of his ability.
“Azwin is running towards Guanil. Three are following behind her.”
“How’s the Wolf formation?”
“I can’t see well from here. But the formation centered around Guanil… Good heavens. About a thousand Mozes and Guanil are surrounded by fifty Wolves. The Irophis Knights are jumping into the center and, well, stirring things up. The Dragon Knights keep circling around… The Mozes are confused and scattering. I don’t know how they can move so simultaneously while separated…”
“It seems the friends commanding both knight orders are quite capable. It must be Greenlich for Irophis, and is it Lucius for the Dragon Knights?”
“No. It’s Billy.”
Jay said in surprise.
“Billy? Who’s that?”
“I don’t remember well, but he must be the training instructor of the Excelon Knights. I’m not sure why he’s mixed in with the Wolf Knights…”
“That’s interesting. Doesn’t this mean knights from all four countries are gathered?”
Lofin chuckled and continued.
“The Mozes who lost their commander are just bewildered beasts on the plain. They’re no longer an army. I told you, didn’t I? Kill Victor alone, and this war is over. Do you know what that means? Without Victor… Guanil is also useless.”
Lofin swallowed hard and asked.
“By the way, where’s Kassel?”
Jay looked up towards the hill. There, only the Wolf flag was planted, fluttering in the wind. Kassel wasn’t there.
“I can’t see him.”
“He must have gone where he needs to go. Prop me up a bit more. I think I can see a little. I want to see for myself. As expected, my endurance is top-notch.”
Jay did as he was told. But blood was gushing out of the wound that had pierced his stomach.
“That child is my trump card, Victor.”
Despite his body growing colder, Lofin didn’t take his eyes off the battlefield.
“Azwin, now it’s your turn to show the White Wolf’s fangs.”
