Chapter 253: Medsang’s Myu (3)
A sleek, streamlined warship arrived above the mana hall. It was flying, yet it had no visible wings—just a ship, floating in the air. There was no way the technology in this world could achieve that. Was it using a skill? If a group of support-type guards with flight skills that could be applied to others worked together, they might be able to create such a sight.
‘But that would take at least dozens of people.’
The ship was massive and heavy. Ah, maybe they also applied weight-reduction support skills? If multiple support-type skills were combined, a relatively small number of guards could make something that big fly.
— Kieeek!
A monster barely dodged the bombardment and lunged at the warship. However, a defensive skill instantly formed at the point of impact, blocking the attack. A small hatch on the ship’s side opened, revealing a gun barrel that immediately aimed at the repelled monster. A deafening gunshot rang out, and before the creature even hit the ground, it was obliterated mid-air.
[This is Medsang’s First Warship, Flor. We advise immediate evacuation from the vicinity of the Achates mana hall.]
A broadcast played.
If it was the First Warship… did that mean there were more?
The ship’s gun ports all opened, shifting their aim toward the mana hall. Yuhyun, Moon Hyunah, Sigma, and the other guards fighting nearby quickly withdrew.
“…This is a lot different than I expected.”
At my remark, Moon Hyunah shrugged.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect that to show up either.”
As soon as we distanced ourselves from the mana hall, another round of bombardment rained down.
It was as if the warship had its own mana hall, with magic-charged projectiles relentlessly pelting the ground. S-rank monsters and lower melted away instantly.
Even some SS-rank monsters—especially the stronger ones—managed to escape with only injuries.
For those that made it past the 100-meter radius from the mana hall, thick cables shot out from the warship. Calling them cables wasn’t quite right—they were nearly as thick as utility poles.
One of these special-item cables wrapped around a massive SS-rank bear, and the monster immediately collapsed forward.
It wasn’t dead.
A hatch on the side of the warship opened, and S-rank guards appeared. They leapt onto the unconscious SS-rank monster, and whatever they did, it offered no resistance. It didn’t take long for them to dismantle it.
“This is seriously insane.”
There wasn’t even a need to step in and help.
As I stood there dumbfounded, watching, the sun began to rise.
The morning light spread across the battlefield, and the number of monsters emerging from the mana hall steadily decreased. Eventually, as daylight fully broke, the bombardment ceased.
The warship quietly, almost soundlessly, turned toward us.
It was definitely floating using skills rather than machines. Even when it descended to just ten meters above the ground, there wasn’t a single mechanical noise.
“Thank you for your help!”
I called out.
Right now, I couldn’t exactly call out for Noah.
The ship remained silent.
As I waited for a response, a section at the front of the warship clunked open.
A few uniformed guards stepped into view.
Unfortunately, none of them had familiar faces.
Then—
The same cables that had restrained the SS-rank monsters fired.
This time, toward us.
“Hyung!”
Yuhyun threw himself in front of me.
Golden chains shot out to intercept the cables, but the moment they tangled together, the light from the chains faded. The once-radiant chains of the Searcher dulled, lifeless, and dropped to the ground.
These cables… Could they be items that absorbed mana?
“Yuhyun, it’s dangerous!”
Before I could finish shouting, the thick cables unraveled into separate strands.
Each strand, slightly thinner than a wrist, slithered like snakes, circling around us.
And the first to be affected—was Yuhyun.
“…Ugh.”
“Yuhyun!”
I quickly caught my brother as his body collapsed from the sudden mana depletion.
He was still conscious, but his grip on my arm was weak.
Moon Hyunah and Sigma hesitated to move recklessly. Unlike Yuhyun, they had protective mana imprints, but if they made direct contact with the cables, they could be in danger too.
“I thought I got along well with Hunter Noah.”
Moon Hyunah muttered, glancing up at the warship.
“I get why they’d be hostile to that face and Young Master, but… Right, Solemnise and Medsang weren’t exactly on friendly terms, were they?”
“They weren’t hostile enough to attack outright.”
“Then it really is because of Seong Hyunjae and Young Master.”
Wait, why Yuhyun?
Even I couldn’t bring myself to argue against that.
Still, this level of hostility was unexpected.
“Hyung…”
“Wait, I’ll buy a mana potion right—”
“No, it’s fine. They won’t touch you.”
Despite his exhaustion, Yuhyun forced himself upright.
I really needed to modify his imprint soon.
[Please store all weapons in your inventory. Any hostile actions will be met with immediate retaliation.]
A broadcast played from the warship.
Everyone frowned at the demand, but for now, we complied.
Weapons in the inventory could be retrieved instantly, after all.
Shortly after, Medsang’s guards descended.
“I will issue one final warning. Any suspicious behavior will be dealt with immediately, so conduct yourselves carefully.”
“Damn, what a pain. What is this, an audience with an emperor? We’re both city leaders, aren’t we?”
Moon Hyunah grumbled.
Well, Solemnise had been abandoned, and Achates was in a position of needing help, but she—Lambda—was different.
Regardless of her complaints, the Medsang guards silently stepped aside. Between the rows they formed, figures began to appear. It was teleportation.
Under the deepening hues of dawn, golden hair swayed lightly. It was an even more intense gold than before. His eyes, too, had changed. While still mixed with light gray, they now carried a deep, dark violet hue.
Aside from the color of his hair and eyes, his appearance remained much closer to the Noah we knew compared to Yuhyun or Moon Hyunah. There were almost no changes, just a slightly more mature look.
He was taller, and his frame was now wrapped in a pristine white uniform.
“Hello, everyone.”
Myu—Noah—greeted us with a faint smile.
Beside him stood another SS-rank guard. Two SS-rank Awakened in a single city?
“Uh, Myu. First, could you remove these cables? We have no intention of attacking, of course.”
Before Noah could answer, the other SS-rank guard stepped forward with a stern expression.
“And how are we supposed to believe that? One of you is an SS-rank Awakened whose identity is completely unknown.”
His cold gaze locked onto Sigma.
I turned to Noah for support, but he only smiled and said nothing.
Hey, Noah…?
“Who is Han Yujin?”
“…That would be me.”
I raised my hand slightly in response to the SS-rank guard’s question.
“I will make an opening. Step forward. The others stay put.”
“What the hell? I’m not leaving my brother behind.”
My face twisted in irritation.
Just me? Was it because I was originally from Medsang City?
They had said they came to help, but now they wanted me to abandon the others? Were they crazy?
The SS-rank guard’s expression darkened at my refusal.
“Myu personally came all this way, and yet you dare to be disrespectful.”
“I did ask for help, but do you think Medsang will be safe if the mana hall issue isn’t resolved? Unless you plan to survive all on your own, you need to cooperate—ugh.”
An overwhelming pressure crushed down on me.
Damn, these high-ranked bastards and their ridiculous sense of superiority.
Even with my S-rank Fear Resistance, I had already dealt with multiple SS-ranks before. Go ahead, glare all you want. I wasn’t going to cower.
“Han Yujin.”
As I locked eyes with the Medsang SS-rank guard, Noah finally spoke.
“Step forward first.”
“But—”
“We cannot allow multiple SS-rank Awakened aboard without proper precautions. You outnumber us as it is. After appropriate safety measures, we will allow you to rest on board.”
The mention of rest caught my attention.
We all needed a break.
Even during the day, monsters would continue appearing, albeit at a reduced rate.
If we could leave the defense to Medsang and recuperate, it would be ideal.
“…Fine.”
I was a little disappointed by Noah’s attitude, but he wasn’t wrong.
They couldn’t just let three SS-rank Awakened from another city onboard without security measures.
Would they seal our inventories or something?
“Hyunah, take care of my brother.”
I left Yuhyun in Moon Hyunah’s care and stepped forward.
As I approached the mana-draining cables, I could feel a slight pull on my mana.
Was it because I had no imprint? Or because my body was from a different world?
Whatever the reason, it didn’t seem to have much effect on me.
The cables slithered apart, creating an opening.
The moment I stepped through, they closed behind me.
“I’m glad to see you’re safe.”
Noah spoke in a gentle tone.
“You too, No—Myu.”
“You can just call me Noah. It is my name, after all.”
Did that mean he still considered it his real name?
Hearing that reassured me.
He wasn’t just Medsang’s Myu—he still identified as Noah.
I had worried that Myu might take precedence over him, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
“Thank you again for coming to help.”
“You don’t need to thank me. You’re here, so it’s only natural. Restrain him.”
It took me a moment to process his last words.
Noah’s voice had suddenly turned cold and firm.
Restrain?
“Wait, Noah—”
As I turned in shock, I immediately saw Yuhyun collapse, completely unconscious.
Moon Hyunah, still barely holding onto her spear, was just managing to stay standing.
Sigma wasn’t much better off.
“What the hell are you doing?!”
“It’s fine, Yujin.”
As I tried to rush toward them, Noah grabbed me.
Even though he was a support-type, he was still SS-rank—I couldn’t break free.
“They won’t be harmed. Don’t worry.”
“This is way overboard!”
Suddenly, my entire body felt like it was being forcefully compressed.
The next moment, the scenery around me shifted.
I was indoors.
In the center of the spacious room, a circular opening led downward, emitting a faint blue glow.
It was the mana hall’s light.
“This is Medsang’s mana hall.”
Noah said.
“We’ve connected space so that mana can be directly supplied from the mana hall anywhere.”
That meant that as long as Medsang’s Myu was present, Medsang’s guards would never run out of mana.
The image of the warship raining down an endless barrage of mana-powered artillery resurfaced in my mind.
So that’s how they could sustain such overwhelming firepower.
“Not only that, but Medsang’s guards within a certain range can also receive mana directly from me through their imprints. Even if they’re not near the mana hall, they can use their skills indefinitely.”
Noah spoke as if that was supposed to put my mind at ease, but I ignored him and walked toward the large window.
Damn it, wrong side.
I crossed the room and pressed against the other window, finally getting a view of the outside.
Moon Hyunah and Sigma had collapsed as well. The cables had retracted, and Medsang’s guards were approaching the three unconscious figures.
They said they were just restraining them, but the sight made the back of my neck prickle.
Someone reached for Yuhyun.
I hated it.
My teeth ground together involuntarily.
“…Of all people, did you really have to treat Yuhyun like that?”
“Are you angry?”
“I wouldn’t say I’m exactly thrilled.”
I turned to look at him.
Noah smiled, slightly troubled.
Of everyone here, his was the most familiar face, yet somehow, he felt the most distant.
When I first saw Yuhyun and Moon Hyunah, I had immediately recognized them as the people I knew.
But Noah…
“Noah, you seem… different.”
“People are always changing. But I’m still the same. I just learned something new.”
“You learned something?”
“Yes. I realized just how much a support-type Awakened can accomplish.”
Noah turned in place, his pristine white uniform swaying lightly.
As he stepped forward, he dramatically extended one hand.
“In Medsang, teams are built around support-type Awakened. Of course, combat-types are still necessary. But by properly combining various support skills, we can enable combat-type Awakened to surpass their own ranks—sometimes by more than a full tier.”
His voice was full of confidence.
“You saw it yourself just moments ago. How easily we subdued SS-rank monsters and guards.”
“…But that’s only possible because mana replenishment is difficult here. You can’t apply that once you leave.”
“Yes. But on the flip side, that same difficulty becomes an advantage. Without me, they can’t use their skills freely.”
“There’s also the issue of dungeon entry limits. You can’t just take as many support-type Hunters as you want inside.”
There was no denying that a well-composed support team was beneficial.
However, due to space limitations inside dungeons, it was hard for a team to be centered around support Hunters.
Not to mention the practical issue of profit distribution—fewer people meant more individual earnings.
The more combat-focused the team, the higher each member’s cut.
“I know that very well, Yujin. I’ve seen it many times, and I’ve experienced it firsthand. Though, since I had healing skills, I was affected less than most.”
Noah smiled as he spoke.
I suddenly felt a little embarrassed.
He had always seemed shy and delicate, but Noah had been a guild leader.
There was no way he wasn’t aware of how the Hunter world worked.
“For now, you should rest. You must be exhausted. I kept you too long. Don’t worry about the others.”
“…Alright.”
It should be fine.
After all, he was still Noah.
Noah called someone in and instructed them to escort me to a room.
“If you need anything, press this button to request it.”
The person who guided me left, and I was alone.
‘…Support-types, huh.’
If Noah wanted support-type Hunters to get more recognition, a Special Awakening Center was essential.
Before my regression, standard Awakening Centers were designed in a way that resulted in most people awakening as combat— or defense-types.
…More importantly, was Yuhyun alright?
Maybe I should ask to stay with him under the condition that I behave.
— Hyung!
At that moment, something popped out from under my clothes.
Iryn.
I flinched in surprise.
What the hell? Why was he with me?
